The War Memorial can be found at the entrance to the church it remembers 20 men who gave their lives in WW1 and 3 who gave their lives in WW2 from the Village and surrounding area.

Lieutenant 1st Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment KIA 22/10/1914 Aged 22. Born Colton 1892. Son of Edward Maule Lawson-Smith born 1859 Longhurst Northumberland Died 1942 and Ethel Mary nee Davies Born Lahore India 1853 Died 1906. The family lived at Colton Lodge bought by Edward in 1894 owning 900 acres of land in the area and 700 acres in Amble Morpeth Northumberland. They acquired this in 1880 under the will of a cousin T.E. Smith and assumed the surname under royal licence in 1881 on succeeding to Togston Hall Morpeth sold in 1913. Enlisted Sandhurst. Medal Index States London Gazette 17/02/1915 Page 1660.

LAWSON-SMITH Thomas Edward

Lieutenant 13th Hussars KIA Messines Ridge 01/11/1914 Aged 25. Born Bolton Percy 1889. Enlisted Sandhurst 1909. Both brothers were "Old Contemptables" a name given to those who had fought before 22nd of November 1914 by the Kaiser. 1911 was in India.

Enlisted York Landed France 30/12/1915. 1911 Occupation Plough Boy on Farm Askham Richard. Joseph took part in the attack on Serre on the first day of theSomme offensive at the battle for Albert DOW at the ambulance clearing station at Bouzincourt.

Private 10804 9th Bn West Yorkshire Regiment KIA 09/08/1915 Aged 25. Born Toulston near Tadcaster 1889. Son of Richard and Emma Ann Kidd Married 1883 Pocklington. Enlisted York Landed 11/07/1915 Gallipoli. Residence 1911 14 Tapton Terrace Chesterfield Gardener. Alfred gave his life on the same day as three other men from the Tadcaster area who were also in the 9th West Yorkshires at Gallipoli.  Brother John William also gave his life Remembered below.

DANIEL James William Gorden 

Private PLY/14452 HM Monitor 20 Royal Marine light Infantry Drowned 06/09/1915 Aged 27. Born Bolton Percy 15/09/1888. Son of William and Rebecca Mary Annie Beal Married 1888. Residence 1891 7 Wharfe Terrace Tadcaster James was with his grandparents. Enlisted 1909 Awarded Medal of the Order of St. Stanislas Russia. The York paper at the time reported that a memorial service was conducted at Bolton Percy Church and the Bishop of Beverley had conducted the service. It was attended by his brother Tom several cousins and his grandparents Thomas and Emma Beal. After the service flowers were placed on the grave.  Memorial Bolton Percy.

Brother of William Weller View Stoney Rock Lane Leeds. Williams son Wilfred John Gave his Life 1918. was a stoker in the Royal Navy having volunteered in 1915. He was engaged on patrol in the mediterranean and the red sea. He died of Influenza (Bird Flu?) in 1918. 1911 Living in Leeds Brother Jacob Born Bolton Percy.

Husband of Jane Spedding Married Sunderland 1914. Zacharius was working as a Gardener in 1911 Residence 20 Briery Vale Road Sunderland. Enlisted Middlesborough.
