Son of Edward Maule Lawson-Smith born 1859 Longhurst Northumberland Died 1942 and Ethel Mary nee Davies Born Lahore India 1853 Died 1906. The family lived at Colton Lodge bought by Edward in 1894 owning 900 acres of land in the area and 700 acres in Amble Morpeth Northumberland. They acquired this in 1880 under the will of a cousin T.E. Smith and assumed the surname under royal licence in 1881 on succeeding to Togston Hall Morpeth sold in 1913. Enlisted Sandhurst. Residence 1891 7 Wharfe Terrace Tadcaster James was with his grandparents. Enlisted 1909 Awarded Medal of the Order of St. Stanislas Russia. The York paper at the time reported that a memorial service was conducted at Bolton Percy Church and the Bishop of Beverley had conducted the service. It was attended by his brother Tom several cousins and his grandparents Thomas and Emma Beal. After the service flowers were placed on the grave. Memorial Bolton Percy.
